After a long, hard struggle learning Flash and ActionScript, the first version of the Readr widget is now up and (mostly) working.
Along the way, I discovered that there's no simple way for the Flash app to detect the security settings used to embed it on the web page (i.e., to query the allowNetworking param value). Lame.
Up next: make a widget that works with wordpress.com...
